But one does not convert distinct individuals into 'mass people' by simply using a ' mass' word.&lt;br /&gt;John and Sylvia are not mass people and neither are others - who are going their way.  It's against ' being a mass person' that they seem to be revolting ! They believe , technology has got a lot to do with the forces that are trying to turn them into 'mass people' ( from assembly line of production), that they don't like it.  So far, their resistance to technology is passive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But their hatred of technology and flight from it, I think, is self defeating.
